Overhead Misting (testing in progress)

We at Mistkits.com are extremely excited to have designed and are currently testing a modular overhead misting system similar to our standard ground based systems we now carry. The overhead manifolds will be similar to our standard 40" long 3/4" dia. PVC units, but will be drilled for special inserts instead of the standard Mist Stix now supplied with our intermittent misting systems. These special inserts allow greater flexibility in the choices of misting nozzles that can be utilized, and these new overhead manifolds will be able to accept any Dramm misting nozzle with Whitworth threads.
This system will be perfect for small greenhouse or hoophouse propagation.

The new overhead manifolds will be able to have the mist nozzles topside of the piping (upright) or suspended below the piping (inverted) with the use of special no-drip extensions. These extensions have three unique features worth mentioning:

1. They control drips from overhead piping with a check valve which retains the water in the piping, ensuring less waste of water and accurate misting durations.
2. They shut off the flow of water when the pressure drops below 11 psi, and lets the water flow to the misting nozzle when the pressure rises above 11 psi.
3. They include a built in filter.

These new overhead manifolds can be suspended a variety of ways and depending on the exact misting nozzles chosen, results in an extremely versatile system. Below are just two options for suspending the manifolds using misting nozzles we currently carry, or nozzles we will soon be carrying:

Option One:

Suspended 60" above the cuttings, with Pin Perfect nozzles topside of the pipe (upright). According to preliminary testing, this should cover an area approximately 10' diameter, but further testing is needed for more accurate coverage data. To decrease the spray diameter of the Pin-Perfect to 7 feet, lowering the pipeline to 3 feet over the crop is needed. This scenario would require using pipe hangers that would suspend the pipe from a central beam or even roof trusses, and be capable of raising or lowering the pipeline accordingly. The pipeline should be perfectly level for best results.

Option Two:

Suspended 48"-96" above the cuttings, with JetRain™ nozzles below the pipe (inverted) using no-drip extensions. According to preliminary testing, this should cover an area approximately 10' diameter, but further testing is needed for more accurate coverage data. Further testing is also needed to determine the best way to reduce the coverage area. This scenario would require the pipe hangers to be attached directly to a central beam or rail. The pipeline should be perfectly level for best results.

Those are just two options. There are many more combinations that can be utilized, like Pin Perfect nozzles inverted below the pipeline using no-drip extensions, and the pipeline clamped directly to a center support or beam, or even Dramm T-drop nozzles instead of the Pin Perfect. There are many variations and combinations, and we will be testing as many as we can to be able to bring you even more misting system options.

We are also considering carrying just the components needed to finish your own manifolds. If you install a central PVC manifold, we will carry the no-drip extensions and JetRain™ or other nozzles you will need to complete your installation. Let us know if you are interested in us carrying these components so we can special order them for you and also begin to build our inventory.
