Whew! Was it chilly last night. I woke up a little cold this morning, and no wonder, it was well below freezing. I know this because of the layer of ice that was in the back of my truck! The ice made me think to look at my misting system to be sure nothing froze and broke. I never knew it was going to be that cold. I have been a little too busy to watch the weather. A quick look at my system showed nothing broken. But that reminds me to send an October newsletter about winterizing a misting system. A frozen and/or broken component can lead to lost cuttings or worse; gallons of water leaking onto the ground. For city water residents, this means a large water bill. For those of us on a well, it means a high electric bill because the well pump runs continuously, and even worse, possibly replacing the pump itself if it burns itself out. Either way, it can be costly.
